As the Rip-Chords, the self-producing studio vocal duo of Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher hit big with 1964's hot rod anthem "Hey Little Cobra" before loosing a string of similarly jubilant surf and hot rod singles under the Bruce & Terry moniker. Johnston, also a seasoned session guitarist, later joined the Beach Boys; Melcher went on to more success as a producer for the Byrds, Paul Revere & the Raiders, and others.
