To chart statisticians, Eddie Cochran came and went in a blur. His first hit was in the spring of 1957; his last was in the fall of 1959. Only one of his seven hits made the Top 10. He was on top of all elements of his music in a way that few early rock 'n' rollers were, and, as the music changed, he seemed to have a vision of how its brattish immediacy could adapt to changing times.
