We the People are certified garage gods, thanks to the band's classic shredders "Mirror of Your Mind," "You Burn Me Up and Down," and "My Brother the Man." But in addition to cranking out diamond-hard punk nuggets like those, the pens of the Florida group's two songwriters, Tommy Talton and Wayne Proctor, also flowed prolifically in styles ranging from baroque psych, soul/R&B, harmony-rich ballads, and raga rock ("In the Past," a shimmering example of the latter style, was famously covered by the Chocolate Watchband). We the People didn't survive much past the dawn of the '60s, but the band's raw, high-energy recordings continue to pummel the ears of delighted garage fans everywhere.
