As far as West Texas rockers in the mid-sixties are concerned, there were two categories: There were the Sparkles and then there was everybody else. While the Grateful Dead and Allman Brothers Band have reaped kudos for trailblazing the dual-drummer rock band configuration, the boys on this record were perfecting this approach in 1965!
As for the recordings on this deadly garage 45, specifically the nuclear meltdown-strength classics No Friend of Mine and Hipsville 29 B.C. (I Need Help), capture the Sparkles at absolute peak power and in a very different bag than the more pop-oriented fare of their previous Hickory Records singles.
Cut from the original mono masters and delivered to you with the cool Sparkles picture sleeve that never was!
