Has there ever been a band as prophetically named as the Seeds? After bursting onto the mid-?60s southern California scene, they began rewriting the rock rulebook immediately. Wrenching, fuzz-laden guitars, insurgent keyboards, odd vocal harmonies and the otherworldy Sky Saxon combined to create an entirely unique sound that caught the contemporary music scene off-guard. They chronicled the menacing underside of peace, love and good vibes, looking past the Summer of Love to a winter of dark discontent. Lyrically, their songs stood up to an oppressive establishment and pushed back. Hard.
